dang difficult

These are my keys at work.

The other day we went outside for "extra" recess/snack for no reason other than it was really pretty. We live in Texas, these days don't last long, when it's a beautiful we go outside. I'm the teacher I make the rules.

Anyway, my keys were sitting on the picnic table outside and this convo went do:
Student A: Ms. Landin why do you have an 'n' on your key chain?
Me: It's not an 'n' it's a 'u'.
Student A: Ohh, why do you have a 'u' on your key chain?
Me: Well, it's going to be the first letter of my new last name!
Student B (sweet little struggling reader who I just adore): What's your new name going to be?
Me: Mrs. Urbanovsky
Student B: WHAT? Ms. Landin! That's not a 'u' that's an 'R'!!

She's totally right. It is.
All I could do was laugh and hug her.
and remind her that "'ur' says /r/ like nurse...but that surely went in one ear out the other

And that my friends is why it's so dang difficult to learn how to read English.

And also why my heart swelled 3 times it's normal size when my sweet little "student B" recognized so quickly why that didn't make sense.

Thus being reason 3029 why I love my job.

Hope something rewarding happens for you today!

Almost Friday! WOOO!

busting at the seams

my heart that is...

"Little" Grant Joseph was born yesterday afternoon. Every single 9 lbs 15 oz of him is perfect.

I just keep thinking "Wow this is big. Huge!"

It is.

A baby. There is nothing in this world more perfect that a newborn child. It's like starting the biggest, most important project of your life from scratch. Every second of everyday will effect his life in one way or another. Every single person that comes in contact with this child will leave their mark.

Starting now his life story begins. The second he was born he started growing into the man he'll one day be.

I look at my kinder babes and think that just 5/6 short years ago they started as nothing more than tiny body with a mind and a soul and now every day, every second even, they're turning into who they are they will become. They're all so unique and so special. They already have a story.

I just seriously cant get over it y'all. Wild.

Wow, I know that was a bunch of ramble but good gosh, I can't begin to wrap my mind around it. So crazy how something so small can be so "big".

Check out big boys precious, teeny feet.
Dying right?? Me too!

Grant is so lucky to have Mark and Brittany as his parents.
also think he's pretty lucky, for now anyway, to have all of us in his life (until the boys fill his mind with ideas of wiener snatchers and such) :)

Isn't he the cutest? And don't you think I need him? I know it!

I've been trying to convince them for the last 9 months to let me have him...no such luck. Guess they want to kiss and hug those sweet cheeks all day long too.  Perhaps I should try again next week after endless days of sleeplessness?

On a similar note I made a basket for Papa Mark of handy "dad stuff" Starbucks coffee drinks, beef jerky, nuts, candy, gum, etc.  I also included Grant's first "dirty magazine" - Sport Illustrated Swim Suit Edition! I'm hoping he'll have some down time in the next couple days, poor guy looked beat!
And y'all may remember this box of awesomeness given to me to celebrate my engagement...well it was so amazing I had to do the same for all the happy people welcoming Grant into the world.

Sprinkles Cupcakes did not disappoint. although, if you've ever had Sprinkles, that comes as no surprise...

It's true Grant! We sure do love you!

Baby G I feel so honored to be a part of your life. I can't wait to watch you grow! Oh,and don't you worry, we I have plans to get you a playmate asap just the very second I can trick T into it.
{evil laugh}

Ms. Landin said "YES!"

Most mornings I have a message waiting for my kids when they walk into class. A typical message usually says something along the lines of "Ms. Landin thinks you're ballar!" or "Did you get your guns up this weekend?" (all my students are Tech fans because I make them be)

I always have fun writing the messages and the kids love to read them but I was especially excited to write a morning message the Monday after I got engaged!!

This is how I told my sweet kinder babies I was officially off the market...

After about oh, 200 guesses on what the picture was ("Is it a pumpkin?", "a wrench?", "a trash can?") someone finally guessed a ring!

I showed them my new ring, which did not impress them much, and told them I got it that weekend. When I asked them to guess who gave it to me, they all yelled out "Jonathan!" (my sweet -and very single-  brother who had just come to school to help us plant flower for our plant unit) I quickly said "NO!" decided not to get in to the topic of incest, and finally someone guessed Travis!

I asked what they thought the ring meant. Guesses were flying! All of them followed by lots of giggles.

"It means you're having a baby." No, no it definitely does not mean that. YET!
"It means you got married."
"It means you have to live with Travis."
"It means you have to kiss a boy."

I finally told them that the ring meant I was getting married! I explained that Travis asked me to marry him to which they all responded "EEEEWWWWWWWWWW!!!!"

The boys in my class think ole Trav is pretty cool.  I show them pictures of the fish he catches and the animals he shoots and the fun animals at his parents house. They all think it is all pretty spectacular. I had warned T though that he would lose all cool points after I told them what he had gone and done. It was true...they now think he's gross to want to marry a girl. HAHA.  Man, I love little boys!
